VESSEL

My vision for Vessel was to take flat sheets of industrial felt and mold it to create a rounded form that could hold precious belongings inside. By wetting the rigid felt and working it over a rounded form, I was able to create individual pieces that could then be sewn together on the machine to create an illusion of a whole form.

materials – industrial felt and sewing thread

process – carved vessel out of blue foam on lathe, covered form in masking tape, drew out pattern, wet industrial felt and stretched over bowl, matched to tape pattern, cut individual pieces of stretched felt, sewn together on the sewing machine
